2021 – New Year to get on the Road to Net Zero?
With every New Year comes renewed optimism for a fresh start and 2021 definitely needs a reboot!
As always, it’s impossible to predict what this year has in store and we may not have been able to hit the ground running as fast as we wanted. But at least with the rollout of the covid-19 vaccine, we can begin to consider looking beyond the pandemic and bring us all closer towards “business as usual”.
On a positive note, 2020 wasn’t all bad after all. As a matter of fact, we saw a growing drumbeat for Net Zero emissions with the climate crisis shaping decision making moving forward. With that said, we may finally be reaching a tipping point where the pieces of the sustainability jigsaw are coming together.
A shift in Social Attitude
The pandemic has undoubtably contributed to a shift in social attitude towards the environment and hopefully, we can build on this momentum with the landmark COP26 climate talks to be held in Glasgow later this year.
But why wait! Start 2021 on a roll with the energy to plant the seeds of a green recovery to make things happen early and thus influence the year ahead.
When building a carbon reduction strategy, it’s critical to find the ideal balance between commercial success and environmental responsibility.
Engaging with suppliers to agree on a set of pathways to achieve Net Zero will benefit every organisation and an Energy Efficiency review is a perfect way to provide a holistic overview for your company.
Any business looking to change its energy approach to deliver greater emissions will guarantee that its buildings are operating to absolute best performance in terms of efficiency, long-term resiliency and reduced Energy Bills. As an effect of this shift, additional capital will be released and open to continually be reinvested into the business.
Prioritising Energy Efficiency upgrades and schemes, alongside a switch to renewable electricity to facilitate decarbonisation will enable businesses to focus on two scopes:
– Get ahead of the curve
– Get on the road to Net Zero 2050
We believe – and certainly strongly hope – that 2021 will represent something of a return to normality involving an acceleration of the climate crisis awareness. As a result of addressing these issues early, enormous economic opportunities will be created for the right companies.
